MASERU — Taekwondo Lesotho has had its budget for the World Youth Championships in Mexico in April approved by the Lesotho Sport and Recreation Commission (LSRC).
Lesotho’s participation at the championships had been in danger because of the costs involved in the trip, and because the Lesotho Taekwondo Federation (LTF) had already blown its budget.
However, a relieved LTF spokesman, Moshoeshoe Mokake, confirmed funds have been made available by the LSRC.
The LTF had budgeted M183 000 for the trip to Mexico.
“The budget has been approved. What is left is to meet with the commission to thrash out details,” Mokake said.
The World Youth Championships are part of a week-long taekwondo gala starting on March 3.
The gala will include a three-day qualification tournament for the first Youth Olympics Games (YOG) to be held later this year.
Taekwondo Lesotho has two spots reserved at the YOG, which will take place in August in Singapore.
