Student wins M50 000 award

MASERU — Butha-Buthe High School student Khojane Ntlaba has always nursed dreams of building a beautiful house for his parents.

That dream came true last Tuesday when a local cement manufacturing company, Pretoria Portland Cement (PPC), gave him a building material voucher worth M50 000.

Ntlaba scooped the first prize in a draw run by PPC for its customers from April to June this year.

“I am very happy and I would like to thank Cash Build and PPC for making my dream come true,” Ntlaba said.

“I’m going to use this voucher to buy materials to build my parents a house,” the 22-year-old said at the award ceremony at Cash Build in the Maseru Industrial area.

PPC area manager Nico Roets said the competition was part of the company’s initiative to celebrate their new motto “Our strength, your vision”.

“PPC wanted to reward its loyal customers by bringing their vision to life with a M50 000 building material voucher,” Roets said.

He said they were proud to be doing the handover ceremony jointly with Cash Build Store where Ntlaba bought his winning entry.

The company said they received thousands of entries from all over the country which was an indication that more people were buying their products.

The competition was part of celebrating PPC’s launch of a new cement enhancement product in July this year.

According to the company the New PPC Surebuild cement give users 15 percent more concrete than the ordinary cement.

Roets said PPC has been producing cement in South Africa for over 119 years that has been used to build some of the country’s prominent landmarks such as the Union Building, SA Parliament and football stadia that were used during the 2010 World Cup.
