MASERU’S Kingsway thoroughfare was brought to a standstill on Saturday, as car spinners and drifters celebrated the wedding of one of their own; Lithebe Tlali.

Tlali married his sweetheart Paula Wesi, who is now Matšepo Tlali, in a colourful ceremony held at Roman Catholic Church cathedral in Maseru.

After the ceremony, the 1990s BMW 3-series cars called Gusheshe for the sound their engines make when they are revved lead the wedding convoy to Maseru Club where the reception was held.

The drifters would occasionally stop the convoy for spinning shows that would draw the attention of hordes of onlookers.

Tlali told the Weekender on the sidelines of the festivities, a drift show was a necessity at his wedding because the adrenaline pastime was his hobby.

“The wedding celebrations would not be complete without the drift show as I consider that to be part of my life and I am grateful for the team that came to show support through their performances in this cold weather,” he said.
