MASERU –– A 29-year-old police officer, Trooper Sehloho Raphael Lepelesana, died last Saturday after he allegedly drank poison.

Police spokesman Senior Superintendent Mpota Nthako confirmed the incident saying the police officer was allegedly “deep in debt”.

According to the police, Lepelesana had an argument with friends during a beer drink at Ha-Mabote.

He later went home and drank some poison, according to friends.

Lepelesana was later rushed to Queen Elizabeth II Hospital in Maseru.

He however died on the way to hospital.

Lepelesana is survived by his wife and a younger brother.

“Lepelesana was threatening to kill himself saying that he had so many debts and did not see any progress in his life,” said one of his friends who declined to be named.

A friend of the deceased said Lepelesana had tried several times to end his life.

He said Lepelesana had appeared suicidal over the past few weeks.

A family member who refused to be named said Lepelesana was troubled by his drinking habits.
