Three suspects, among them a member of the Lesotho Defence Force (LDF), were remanded in custody yesterday over the fatal shooting of Kabelo Nkhahle and Motlatsi Hlomelang Tsoamotse in Thetsane last month.
Tšeliso Hlalane (23), Mosa Kori (30) and Mpho Fako (33) are accused of killing the pair close to a filling station in Thetsane on 20 March.
The three are also being charged with possessing an unlicensed firearm and 31 rounds of ammunition, thereby violating the Internal Security Act.
The Maseru Magistrate’s Court remanded the pair to 13 April, with Magistrate Masupha Kao advising them of their right to legal representation and apply for bail before the High Court should they wish to do so.
According to police spokesperson Clifford Molefe, the firearm was found during a raid in Lithabaneng on Tuesday night which resulted in the arrest of Kori and Fako.
Hlalane, who is a member of the LDF, was later arrested at Makoanyane Barracks with the assistance of Military Intelligence members who even ensured his appearance before the court yesterday.
Senior Superintendent Motlatsi Mapola said the police were grateful for the army’s cooperation in Hlalane’s arrest.
“We are very grateful for the cooperation we received from the army and are convinced with such collaboration, we are going to beat criminals who are causing so much havoc in our communities,” said Sen Supt Mapola said.
Meanwhile, Nkhahle was laid to rest in Maseru East last Saturday, whilst Tsoamotse would be buried this weekend in Mazenod.
