MASERU — Former Lesotho captain Lehlohonolo Seema says he is not yet ready for a big responsibility such as coaching the national team.
Seema, who is now assistant coach at former club Bloemfontein Celtic, told the Lesotho Times he is still a “student” and happy to be acquiring some coaching knowledge and experience at the South African Premier Soccer League side.
“I have recently completed a three-day Basic Advanced and Periodisation Coaching
Course held in Cape Town,” Seema said.
“I’m still very much a learner looking for more opportunities to empower myself with the knowledge needed to become a good coach.”
The former defender — one of Lesotho’s greatest footballers of all time — further said he was honoured some fans have suggested he be part of the national team’s coaching department.
“Like I have said before, I’m willing to help in the growth of football in my country, but not as a coach for the national team until I am through with the learning process.”
Seema however, said it was possible one day, he would coach the national team, popularly known as Likuena.
“I’m very thankful to Celtic for giving me the opportunity to learn and improve my coaching abilities,” he said.
The Mafeteng-born defender, who has also been involved at his home team Bantu, where he was once a technical adviser, said it was his wish to see Lesotho football develop.
“That is my greatest wish — to see football developing in my country. This explains why I will always be available to make a contribution to local football whenever I am needed,” said Seema, who, in addition to captaining Celtic, also skippered Soweto giants Orlando Pirates before retiring from professional football in 2011 because of a recurring knee injury.
