FORMER Lesotho International Lehlohonolo Seema has been fired from DStv Premiership side Chippa United following a string of poor performances.
Seema was appointed Chippa coach in July this year and had played eight league matches winning one win, drawing two and losing five. He leaves the side in 14th position in the 16-team table.
Chippa chairman Siviwe Mpengesi yesterday said they had fired Seema and appointed Luc Eymael to succeed him.
“Our ambition was to have an improved season and not fight relegation as was the case in the past few seasons,” Mpengesi said.
“One of Eymael’s responsibilities is a top eight finish for this season.”
It is only at the end of the season when the club’s board will deliberate on his contract.
“We wish Mr Seema well in his future endeavours, and thank him for his contribution towards the Chippa United brand,” Mpengesi said.
Seema also confirmed his departure from Chippa.
“Yes, I have been fired and I was told it was because the team was losing.
“My mandate was to ensure that the team doesn’t get relegated and I think I was still on the right track. I was still trying to build a new team and that takes time. I still believe in my abilities as a coach.
“It was always going to be challenging to build a new team with new players. Most of the matches that we lost it was because of lack of experience and we needed patience but the chairperson saw it otherwise,” Seema said.
He said for now he does not have any offers and will be spending the holidays with his family.
