MASERU — South African gospel star Sechaba Pali is heading to Lesotho for a show on April 24.
The award-winning artist confirmed to the Lesotho Times yesterday in a brief telephone interview that he will be performing at Manthabiseng Convention Centre.
The Free State-born Sechaba who has released three albums so far has grown to become one of South Africa’s best-selling gospel artistes.
From his humble beginnings as a street kid in Johannesburg some years ago, the talented artiste has engraved a notable name for himself on the regional gospel scene.
His latest offering Mangihamba Nawe won the Best Traditional Gospel Album award during last year’s SAMA awards and is doing well throughout the region, including in Lesotho.
He has been featuring as a nominee in the awards since 2005 for his three albums; Sechaba (2005), Molimo Oteng (2008) and the chart buster Mangihamba Nawe last year.
Sechaba, popular for his booming voice and powerful lyrics and lately his well co-ordinated choreography, has worked with some of South Africa’s most successful artistes including Benjamin Dube and Sipho Makhabane.
His fans in Lesotho said they can’t wait to meet the gospel star.
Limpho Matšosa told the Lesotho Times yesterday she can’t believe the artiste is coming.
“I just hope it is true that he is coming. South African artistes have not been faithful to us over the years.
“Either they don’t come at all or they arrive late for shows and this is really disappointing because we are big fans of them,” Matšosa said.
Another fan, Masingoaneng Lephatsoe, said she can’t wait to see Sechaba live for the first time.
“He inspires me a lot. His life is really touching; from being a street kid to a successful gospel singer. This is amazing” Masingoaneng said.
