MASERU — South African clap and tap group, Mighty Singers Gospel Group, are set to perform at Manthabiseng Convention Centre this weekend.

Mighty Singers Gospel Group will perform alongside local choirs Bana ba Tumelo, Bakhethiloeng ke Morena, Ba lateli ba Tumelo and Thaba ea Senai.

The show has been organised by Bishop Ben Mosala of Kutloano Music Productions.

Mosala told the Weekender the concert is meant to uplift clap and tap gospel music in the country.

“We are trying to create a platform for local choirs so that they can measure themselves against South African standards,” Mosala said.

“Mighty Singers Gospel Group is made up of professionals and that alone we hope will influence every individual who loves the genre but does not attend a clap and tap church to also join in.”

This is the second time a South African clap and tap group has performed in Maseru after Ba rorisi Ba Morena performed in Maseru last November.

Mosala said after these two concerts, they were planning to take Lesotho choirs to perform in South Africa next year.

He added that the move to have local choirs share the stage with their South African counterparts was meant to motivate them into improving the quality of their music.

Kutloano Music Productions is working with 11 local clap and tap gospel choirs who rotate to perform together with South African artistes.

Mosala said they had invited local groups to come forward so that they can have an opportunity to share the stage with the visitors during the two-day concert.

The groups would be compensated for performing at the shows.

“We are working together in this long-term project but they are not booked, rather we will compensate and thank them for showing their determination,” Mosala said.

He added that they were still to host two more clap and tap groups later this year before the exchange performances see local groups visiting South Africa
