ROCK The City stars, Mavele and Vesta, will next week begin a high schools tour aimed at raising funds for vulnerable school children.
The duo will hold their first show at Leribe English Medium High School on 13 May before moving to the Berea, Maseru, Mafeteng and Mohale’s Hoek districts.
“There are destitute children at almost every school in the country who struggle with basic needs such as school fees and uniform,” Mavele said told the Weekender this week, adding this was a different kind of charity event which would feature performances by local artistes at different high schools.
“The proceeds from each show will be used to subsidise the school fees of vulnerable students as well as helping them with school uniforms,” he said.
He said they would also feature motivational speakers to help the students make their career choices.
“Being successful in life does not mean pursuing a career where you wear a suit and work in an office.
“So we will also have personalities from the entertainment industry such as radio presenters and deejays who will give the students details of their careers in order for them to realise that they can still earn a proper living from careers in the entertainment industry.
“We will also give the students the platform to showcase their talents and compete against each other and hopefully we will be able to award prizes to the best.”
He said although they hoped to cover the whole country, they would start with the lowlands until such a time funds permitted.
