MASERU — A police constable allegedly shot his fiancée following an argument last Thursday.

The police officer who works at the Maseru Border Gate is alleged to have shot his 23-year-old fiancée after a quarrel at the main bus stop in Maseru.

The woman is now recovering at a local hospital.

Police spokesperson Masupha Masupha confirmed the incident.

“The police constable shot her twice during an argument,” he said, adding that police were investigating the case.

He said when police officers arrived at the scene they found that the suspect was a constable with the Lesotho Mounted Police Service.

Masupha said the suspect had used a licensed private gun, a 9mm firearm, which will now be used in court as exhibit.

The man was arrested immediately and he is now in police custody.

He is charged with attempted murder and is expected to appear in court soon.
