New Liphaqola mixtape in the works
HIP-HOP artist, Boshoa Botšoere, says his Liphaqola movement is working on a mixtape scheduled to drop in April this year.
The former D2a-Majoe member told the Weekender that the production was the movement’s first collective project since its formation in 2013.
Apart from Botšoere, the group also includes his former D2amajoe colleague Qhobela and former National University of Lesotho’s DOPE FM hip-hop presenter Dave Stone.
“Liphaqola, meaning traveller, is a concept I coined when I was still a member of D2amajoe. It refers to the musical journey which we embarked on, and our intention to reach many places,” Botšoere said this week.
“The 12-track mixtape will be called Tlamathata, with the release date set for April this year. The only artist featuring on the project, other than Liphaqola members, is Chocolate Soul.
“Tlamathata is our first project together, so the three of us are having to bring all our energies to the table and showcase our different skills”.
Botšoere further said they were working with Seamrock Entertainment producer Cymtom Beats, Vodacom Superstars 2015 music category winner L-Tore, Chocolate Soul and new kid-on-the-block Eazy, in the production of the mixtape.
Botšoere said they had already released a single, Metsuntsunyane, from the mixtape, adding the track had been getting generous airplay on local radio stations.
“We plan to shoot a music video for the remix of Metsuntsunyane which will feature Chocolate Soul,” he said.
“Our hope with this project is for it to open doors for us locally and beyond. We also hope it will lead to sponsorship and endorsements from the corporate sector.”
Botšoere also said fans looking forward to the tape can expect similar sounds to his experimental project, Sephaqola, which he released last year.
“We will incorporate some of the hard-core and conscious sounds we used during my solo project, Sephaqola, last year,” he said.
“The mixtape will be a fusion of the new-school type of music and conscious vibes we usually produce.”
Meanwhile, Boshoe also revealed he was working on his solo project dubbed Maroele Tape and due in March this year.
