THE Director General of the Postal Services in the Ministry of Communication, Science and Technology, ’Maleloko Nkhahle, has been suspended indefinitely to pave way for an investigation into the embezzlement of funds which allegedly occurred under her watch.
Ms Nkhahle is the daughter of former Prime Minister Pakalitha Mosisili.
The ministry’s chief information officer, Abeloang Ramakhula, yesterday confirmed the suspension in an interview with the Lesotho Times.
“It’s true that the Director General of Postal Services has been suspended pending investigations into the alleged maladministration of salary advances,” Mr Ramakhula said.
“She has only been suspended because she is in charge of the department. Like everyone else she is innocent until proven guilty and this shall only be after the investigations have been wrapped up and the findings of the investigation publicised.”
The Directorate of Corruption and Economic Offences (DCEO) also confirmed that it is investigating the department of salary advances in the Postal Services for the alleged maladministration of funds.
“Though we can’t say the names of those suspected in the looting, we can safely confirm that we have been investigating the case since August last year and it is also premature to say how much money is involved.
“Divulging figures and names at this stage could only be misleading and could jeopardise the investigations into the matter,” DCEO spokesperson ’Matlhokomelo Senoko said.
Contacted for comment Ms Nkhahle said she needed to consult her legal advisor before commenting on the case.
“Let me consult my lawyer first then I will get back to you in 20 minutes time,” Ms Nkhahle said.
However, by the time of going to print, she still had not returned the called back.
