Mosisili appoints new GS, 10 PSs

Prime Minister Pakalitha Mosisili has appointed Lebohang Ramohlanka as the new Government Secretary (GS)—the first female to occupy the coveted post.

Ms Ramohlanka replaces Mr Moahloli Mphaka, who is on leave pending the completion of negotiations for his exit package since his contract was supposed to expire in 2017.

Sources privy to the appointment said Ms Ramohlanka is expected to assume her post on Friday next week although she would not comment on the matter when contacted yesterday by the Lesotho Times.

However, the sources added in addition to Ms Ramohlanka, the premier has appointed 10 principal secretaries (PSs) who are also expected to assume their positions on 2 October.

The new PSs are Advocate Borenahabokhethe Sekonyela (Home Affairs), Karabo Tlhoeli (Labour and Employment ), Mojalefa Phomane (Law and Constitutional Affairs),  Selloane ‘Mamakhaola Qhobela ( Police), Dr ‘Mampho Kotela ‘Molaoa (Defence and National Security),  Majakathata Mokoena (Justice and Correctional Service ),  ‘Malerato Khoeli (Public Works and Transport), ‘Mapitso Panyane (Local Government and Chieftainship),  Tlohelang Aumane (Development Planning )and ‘Makhojane Monyane, (Mining).

Ms Ramohlanka was Lesotho’s High Commissioner in London from 2000 to 2005, and was appointed Mafeteng District Administrator in 2005. She occupied the post until 2007 when she became National Assembly Clerk before leaving in 2012. It was not immediately clear what else she has been doing since, apart from providing voluntary services to the Lesotho Evangelical Church in Southern Africa (LECSA).

The Lesotho Times could not immediately get comments from the incoming PSs, while Communications, Science and Technology Minister Khotso Letsatsi told the Lesotho Times: “I can’t comment on the appointments because there are processes and procedures to be done before they can be called to resume their duties.
