MASERU — Property estimated to be worth millions of maloti was burned down at the Hua Sheng Imports and Exports Factory in Maseru’s Industrial Area on Monday.
Hua Sheng Imports and Exports Factory, which employs about 50 people, produces toilet paper.
The cause of the fire could not be established at the time of going to print.
Three cars, a BMW, a van and a truck which were parked inside the factory building were also burned down in the inferno.
The fire also destroyed machines that were used to produce the toilet paper.
Police spokesperson Masupha Masupha confirmed the incident.
“We received a report that the factory was on fire on Monday. Police are investigating the cause of the fire,” Masupha said.
But a factory worker who refused to be named said the fire could have been caused by an electrical fault.
“I suspect the fire could have been due to an electrical fault because when we left this place last night everything seemed to be fine,” he said.
“We were shocked when we arrived in the morning to find the place in that state. The machines that we use to produce the toilet paper were also destroyed. Nothing was saved,” he said.
