Matsoso joins Wits
FORMER Lioli winger Luciano Matsoso has been thrown a life line by the South Africa’s ABC Motsepe League outfit Wits University after struggling to secure a team over the last six months.
Matsoso parted ways with Lioli at the end of last season and he has been struggling to get a team with some clubs promising him a contract only to backtrack later.
But the Likuena midfielder finally made a break through this week signing a six months contract with the former ABSA Premiership League champions who are now playing in the lower division league after selling their status to Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila this season.
The University side purchased their third-tier league status from Baberwa FC.
In an interview with the Lesotho Times this week, Matsoso said he was happy with the move as it will help him get game time and keep in shape.
“I have signed with Wits University for six months and for now, they are just waiting for my police clearance so they can register me,” Matsoso said.
“Some might perceive this as a step back from the Lesotho premier league but I am happy with the move because it will keep me active as I still have hopes of securing a European move. Game time is what I needed the most to boost my confidence.”
Matsoso has already been training with the team in its preparation for the new season starting next month.
“I have been training with them for some time, hence I also ended up deciding to join them. I think they have managed to assemble a good squad for a team which was dissolved last season and it shows that they have high ambitions. The league is starting next month, so we have been hard at work here.
“I just have to keep on working hard and focusing on the job at hand because I have my targets and I just hope things work out for me so that I can move abroad,” Matsoso said.
