MASERU — It’s often said sequels aren’t as good as the first instalments but judging by the noises coming from the Matlama and Bantu camps Sunday’s Vodacom Soccer Spectacular final should be a cracker.The two sides face off in the M360 000 match on Sunday hoping to finally settle who wins the top prize in Lesotho’s cup football.The two sides could not be separated two weeks ago at Setsoto Stadium, with the final ending 1-1 after normal time.
With penalties due to be taken to decide the winner, the match was called off because of poor light.So it means Sunday will decide the winner. Going only on the performance of the teams in the first match, Matlama go into the game as the slight favourites to win. Tse Putsoa were all over A Matšo Matebele and should have wrapped up the tie long before Tlali Maile’s last minute equaliser from the spot for Bantu.
“It’s the last match of the year, there is no match after this one and the only thing we can do is to give ourselves and our supporters an early Christmas present,” Matlama communications and marketing manager Lesolle Phalatsi told the Lesotho Times yesterday.His Bantu counterpart Bokang Phasumane said the match will give them a chance to win silverware.“Our aim, as we said before, is to win every competition that we enter. The Vodacom Soccer Spectacular is no different,” he said.The two sides also go into the game with contrasting fortunes from recent league action.
Matlama beat Majantja 1-0 on Saturday thanks to a goal by Dlomo Monapathi who has beeninstrumental in Tse Putsoa’s run in the Vodacom Soccer Spectacular.Bantu on the other hand were defeated by 1-0 LCS on Sunday.But being a once-off knockout match, past results shouldn’t matter.
Last time playing at Setsoto brought the best out of both teams as they dished up a humdinger.Off the field there will have to be much better organisation than there was last time around because on Sunday all roads lead to Setsoto.
