PRIME Minister Sam Matekane will on Monday present a detailed report on the milestones that his government achieved during its first 100 days in office.
The coalition administration’s 100 days in office ended on Monday this week.
The presentation of the report will be followed by a dialogue the following day on citizen engagement and participation in governance issues.
According to a statement last night by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, Limpho Tau, the engagement at the ‘Manthabiseng Convention Centre would be held under the theme ‘Service Delivery and Accountability Dialogue’.
Premier Matekane is expected to discuss with the public, the nature and role of the civil service, as well as the sector’s obligations to Basotho.
Representatives of various sectors will participate in the formulation of a strategic development plan for the 2023/2024 fiscal year.
Mr Tau said Mr Matekane will unpack a detailed report based on the 21 thematic points that he said would be his priority focus during his 100 days in office.
The report, he noted, would entail the six key strategic goals emanating from the 21 thematic areas the premier promised to prioritise. These include enhancing inclusive and sustainable economic growth and private sector job creation, strengthening the human capital, building an enabling infrastructure, strengthening national governance and accountability systems for improved service delivery as well as strengthening climate risk management resilience and adaptation. Mr Matekane has also pledged to strengthen public financial management.
This would result in increased accountability, transparency, reporting on performance, as well as social engagement, Mr Tau said.
He add that Mr Matekane had also promised to increase accountability in the public sector by creating a system in which performance, expected from public officers, would be transparently stated and reported upon.
The dialogue also formed part of Mr Matekane’s policy aimed at engaging the public in planning all business that involves them, through the Prime Minister’s Citizen Engagement Programme. This initiative was intended to operationalise the Key Priority Area IV of the National Strategic Development Plan – NSDP II, cited as “Strengthening National Government and Accountability Systems”.
“On Monday the 3rd of April, the Prime Minister at 8pm. on both national radio and television, will give a detailed report on the strides made during his first 100 days in office, and hold the above-mentioned dialogue the following day, on the 4th of April,” Mr Tau said in his statement.
“Basotho are therefore invited and urged to watch and listen attentively when the Prime Minister unpacks his report. It will go a long way in helping to enlighten those who will participate in the dialogue on Tuesday.”
