SOUTH African disc spinning twins, Major League DJz, are billed to perform at the downtown situated Cuban Linx club at a party dubbed ‘Living it Up’ on the 29th of this month.
The fiesta is being organised by CLX management in collaboration with Maluti Mountain Brewery (MMB).
Phoka Lithebe, who is one of the organisers of the event, told the Weekender that they have been preparing for the event since last year and they are happy to finally bring it to life.
“The event is a strong collaboration between Cuban Linx and Maluti Mountain Brewery MMB and we have been planning it since last year so we are happy that we are finally bringing it to life,” Phoka said.
He said the event was partly a birthday celebration for one of Cuban Linx’s founding members so they thought it was befitting to host a bigger event in collaboration MMB.
“Living it up is partly a birthday celebration of one of the founding members of Cuban Linx. So we took the opportunity to bring MMB into the fold and make it a celebration for everyone,” Phoka said.
Born Banele and Bandile Mbere, Major League DJz are arguably the most popular twins in the African music industry, being one of the pioneers of the currently trending New Age Kwaito.
Their popularity took off when they released The Bizness with their compatriots, Cassper Nyovest and Riky Rick in 2013. From then, it was smooth sailing. They went on to do Slyza Tsotsi, Zulu Girls, Do Better and Sgetit which all received warm welcomes.
They are accelerating their popularity with their recent releases such as Uthando, 19 Tobetsa and Family with Kwesta and Kid X. Their songs can easily be identified through the punchline, “Oh God its Major League”, at the beginning of each track.
They have performed in Lesotho before during the last edition of the Vodacom Summer Feva in 2016 when they had the entire audience eating off the palms of their hands as they played one hit after the other.
Phoka said they chose to bring Major League DJz partly because of the fact that they haven’t performed at Cuban Linx before.
“This is the first time that Major League DJz will be gracing our stage with a performance and we’re extremely excited.”
“We always look at various factors and we focus mostly on value for our customers as that is the most vital issue,” he said adding that they try avoid monotony hence they are always looking for skilled individuals to perform for their customers.
“We always try to change and improve our offering wherever possible. We give platforms to fresh talent as a chance to prove themselves and we also provide a very different nightlife experience for our customers.”
The other DJs who will be performing at the event are the likes of Afro DJ, Deepee, Mekonko, Jab A jaw, The A Supreme, Da Star, Tshepza, Dimmo, Ebonics and Lym.
“The lineup is a combination of some of our resident DJs and others whom we feel are so talented and can be trusted to add value to the event.”
