MASERU — South African gospel sensation Solly Mahlangu will perform at the Harvest FM’s 8th anniversary celebrations to be held at the Manthabiseng Convention Centre this Saturday.
Mahlangu thrilled fans last year during the station’s 7th anniversary at the same venue.
The stations’ manager, ‘Malichaba Lekhoaba told the Weekender they had initially planned to bring South Africa’s gospel star Mthunzi Namba but because he had other commitments they settled for Mahlangu instead.
“He (Namba) has other commitments on the same date so we decided to choose an artiste who is available and would be appreciated and Solly Mahlangu was the best choice,” Lekhoaba said.
She said apart from Mahlangu locals Jerry Mohale, Tsepo Kherenchane, Fusi Mathoma and Makoanyane Ntlama will also perform at the show.
“This is a time where we celebrate with our listeners,” she said.
Proceeds from last year’s went go towards the station’s bursary fund for orphans.
The other portion went towards asssisting the stations’ presenters to buy cars.
“We are paying school fees for 10 students from different high schools around the country and have managed to buy cars for our presenters,” she said.
She said apart from being a fund-raising show the annual event also helps local gospel artists to showcase their talent.
“We had a lot of local gospel artistes wanting to be included in the line-up for this year’s ceremony but we could only have a few.
“Most want to be included in the line-up so they can have exposure and the feel of performing before a large crowd to scale their quality of production.”
“We however try to accommodate those who want to showcase their talents through a session called Lesotho’s Got Talent where people ‘with talent’ register to perform.”
The event is also a time for prayer, Lekhoaba added.
“This ceremony is regarded as a gospel gathering featuring gospel stars and a session of prayer by different guest pastors.”
