MISS Lesotho organisers have appealed to Basotho to vote for Mpoi Mahao to enable her to make it into the top 10 finalists of the Miss World 2017 whose crowning ceremony is set for in Sanya in China on Saturday.

The 20-year-old Mahao is the reigning Miss Lesotho and is currently in the Asian country representing Lesotho in the prestigious Miss World pageant. She left the country for China on 17 October to join over 100 contestants from different countries.

Speaking to the Weekender this week, a representative of the Miss Lesotho organisers, Machesetsa Phakiso, said a high number of votes would enable Mahao to book a spot in the top 10.

“People can vote for Mpoi by visiting Miss World website, clicking contestants, locating Mpoi and clicking on vote,” Phakiso said, adding, “they can also find the direct link on Miss World Lesotho Facebook page”.

“The contestant with the most votes will automatically land a spot in the top 10 finalists, bringing us a step closer to the crown. The voting process will be closed on Friday midnight while the crowning is on Saturday.

“Mpoi told us that she was doing well in different competitions they have taken part in so far which include a fashion show, modelling, sports and visiting places close to Sanya. She is confident the crown is coming to Lesotho and we once again plead with locals to vote her into the top 10 finalists,” he said.

Mahao has previously spoken of her determination to win the main crown, or at least emulate compatriot, Michelle Tau, who claimed the second runner up spot at the Face of Beauty International in September this year in New Delhi, India.

“Michelle set the bar very high and it is only fair that I do not drop the standards but take them higher.

“I am more than prepared as I have been on a winning streak since the Miss NUL 2016 title which was followed by Miss Intervarsity 2016 and finally Miss Lesotho 2017. I have no intention of destroying the pattern,” Mahao said.

And if her Facebook posts are anything to go by, Mahao is having the time of her life in China.

“On my way to rehearsals I was called to do a short clip for one of the major companies in China and I can’t help but thank God for the showers of blessings. I am definitely having the time of my life,” she recently wrote on her Facebook page.
