THE Lesotho Post Bank (LPB) and the Lesotho Association of Teachers (LAT) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) under which LPB will offer its products and services to LAT members.

These include personal, short-term, vehicle, and home loans, as well as savings and investment options.

Speaking at the MoU signing ceremony this week at LPB Headquarters at Mafike House in Maseru, LPB Chief Sales Officer, Lineo Masupha, expressed appreciation for teachers, noting their crucial role in shaping future generations. Ms Masupha said the bank was committed to easing the financial burden of teachers so they can focus on educating students.

“We are all here because of the teachers who played a vital role in making us who we are today. As LPB, we are partnering with LAT because we want to empower them and transform their lives through our affordable and accessible products, including personal, short-term, vehicle, and home loans, as well as savings and investment opportunities,” Ms Masupha said.

She also said the partnership includes provisions for ongoing negotiations and the option for renewal.

LAT Secretary General, Letsatsi Ntsibulane, said LAT Financial Services had been unable to meet the full financial needs of all its members. He welcomed the partnership, describing it as a much-needed solution that would widen access to financial services for teachers.

“We partnered with LPB because we couldn’t fully meet our members’ financial needs. This is a great partnership, especially because LPB is a Basotho-owned bank. This marriage will contribute to the economic growth of our country, as LAT commands the majority of teachers in Lesotho,” Mr Ntsibulane said.

For his part, LPB Managing Director, Mokhachane Mopeli, reiterated the importance of education in society and expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration.

“I am very excited about this partnership because we are working with those who shape the future of our country. I value education, as I am where I am today because of it. We cannot look down on education; it has produced many of our leaders.

“We do not just say we value education, we support it daily. Whether it is helping parents pay school fees or offering them loans to do so, we are committed. Most importantly, we also contribute to building schools,” Mr Mopeli said.
