South African entertainment outfit, MAD has billed 10 local acts to perform at Niche Lounge in Johannesburg on Saturday.

MAD was established by Lesotho-born Molupe “Dope” Matete and actor ‘Matli Mohapeloa to provide a platform for local artistes. They held their first show in Lesotho in 2015.

Dubbed ‘MAD About Dope’, the Johannesburg event which will be in celebration of Dope’s 30th birthday will feature local acts such as DJ Elque, Deepee, Harris T, Sir Schaba, DJ Bootz, Mekonko, Katz, Smooth, MC Conundrum and Juvy alongside South Africans Deetoy, DJ Guru and Tamarsha with ‘Matli as the MC.

Speaking to the Weekender this week, ‘Matli said that the event aimed at exposing local stars to the South African market.

“We have been hosting music festivals for the past two years and our parties have been ‘MAD’ about everything we celebrate and we have held five to date,” ‘Matli said.

“We have worked with several local artistes at our pilot editions in Lesotho and they never disappointed.

“As proud Basotho, we also found it fit to show the South Africans the talent brewed at home and this is the first of many to come. We believe they will become sought after brands.”

One of the acts, Harris T said that it was up to the artistes to make use of the opportunity to make names for themselves.

“It is every Mosotho artiste’s dream to make it big in South Africa because the market is more established than at home.

“The MAD owners have met us halfway through this event and it is up to every act to ensure that he goes hard and heard. We have to show the South Africans that we can deliver,” he said.
