ROMA –– Cup specialists LMPS continued their cup hoarding ways by winning the MGC Supa 8 trophy on Sunday, beating LDF 2-0 in the final in Roma.

The win is the perfect tonic for Simunye ahead of the soon to start 2009/10 league season where LMPS will hope to mount a serious title charge.

LMPS’s MGC Supa 8 triumph was a victory of defence, throughout the competition Simunye did not concede a goal. After stifling the attacking prowess of Lioli on Saturday in the semi-finals, Simunye then repeated the trick with a physically imposing, direct and disciplined approach against LDF.

It wasn’t always pretty but it was highly effective and LMPS are now M60 000 richer. LCS beat Lioli on penalties in the third-place play-off.

Player of the tournament: Bota Ramantsoe (LMPS)

LMPS’s captain led by example throughout the three week extravaganza, always giving 100 percent, always inspirational. Ramantsoe also illustrated his versatility. Whereas he stifled Lioli’s Bushy Moletsane with a bulldog performance in the semi-final, he showed the other side to his game in the final controlling and prompting LMPS’s display.

Goal of the tournament: Thabane Rankara (quarter-final first leg vs Arsenal, Matsieng)

After receiving a pass from Ralekoti Mokhahlane, Rankara swivels and shoots in one movement sending a rasping left-footed shot in the top corner past a helpless Arsenal keeper.

Match of the tournament: Lioli 3-1 Nyenye Rovers (LCS Central Prisons)

Top scorer: Thabane Rankara (5 goals)
