Linare keeper joins Botswana champions

MASERU — Linare Football Club goalkeeper Dyke Sesiu has joined crack Botswana premier league side Township Rollers following a M10 000 transfer deal.

The 28-year-old Sesiu joins the defending Botswana league champions following a successful two-week trial.

Linare public relations officer Thabo Maretlane confirmed the development in an interview with the Lesotho Times on Tuesday.

“Dyke Sesiu will be joining Township Rollers of Botswana and will definitely be in Botswana next week,” Maretlane said.

He said Sesiu and Rollers were still tying up negotiations for the player’s personal terms.

The length of the contract was still to be finalised, Maretlane said.

“The transfer deal is M10 000 but we are still negotiating the time he will spend with Township Rollers,” he said.

He said according to the transfer deal, Township Rollers will be expected to cover Sesiu’s accommodation and meal expenses.

“Besides the salary and the M10 000 transfer deal, Township Rollers have also agreed that they will provide him with everything including accommodation and meal expenses,” Maretlane said.

He however refused to disclose how much Sesiu will be paid per month.

Sesiu joined Linare in the 2008/2009 season from Sekamaneng Young Stars who were relegated from the top-flight league in 2008.

Township Rollers are Botswana’s premier league defending champions.

The club will this weekend take on Angola’s Inter Luanda in a Caf Champions League preliminary tie in Gaborone.

The return leg is due in a fortnight in Luanda, Angola, a match in which Sesiu is likely to feature.

Township Rollers are currently on top of the premier league log with 45 points.

They have played 18 matches, won 14, drew three and lost once.

They are also harvested an impressive 48 goals while conceding 14 times in the 18 matches they have played.

This means Sesiu will need to up his game if he is to win a starting place in the team.
