MASERU –– The COSAFA Senior Challenge Cup is back on. Last week the Lesotho Times reported that the tournament had been shelved after prospective hosts Zimbabwe failed to raise the funds to hosts the championship.
However, following a week of uncertainty the Zimbabwean government on Tuesday announced that the regional showpiece will take place after it allocated US$1 million (M7.8 million) to ensure the successful hosting of the COSAFA showpiece.
The 14-team tournament is expected to take place in October.
Uncertainty had shrouded Zimbabwe’s hosting of the tournament after the country’s Minister of Education, Sport, Arts and Culture, David Coltart, last week indicated that the country did not have adequate funds to host the tournament.
