THE Lesotho PostBank on Saturday donated wheelchairs, food parcels and clothing worth M50 000 to Mokhethoaneng villagers, in Berea district, living with disabilities.

The bank embarked onto the corporate social investment initiative after observing the difficult conditions in which the people living with disabilities were living in.

The food packages for the four beneficiaries included maize meal, sugar, eggs, potatoes, cooking oil, milk, washing and bath soap, beans, peas, tea, petroleum jelly, butternut squash, oranges and paraffin among others.

There were also three wheelchairs, two of which went to children born which physical disabilities and one which was given to a paralysed elderly. The fourth beneficiary, who lives with a mental disability, only received a food parcel.

LPB chief sales officer, ‘Mathabo Tšehlo, said the wheelchairs would ease the beneficiaries’ movement while the food and other donations would nourish and keep the beneficiaries warm this winter.

“We were deeply touched after observing the challenges of the people living with disabilities in the area and decided to help,” Ms Tšehlo said.

“We included food parcels to keep the beneficiaries nourished and nappies for children with unique conditions.”

The bank’s employees donated towards the clothing of the beneficiaries.

One of the beneficiaries is 65-year-old Amelia Mokhonofane, who was left paralysed after suffering a pelvic injury in a car accident in 2009.

Despite her condition, Ms Mokhonofane looks after 18-months old twins. She used to have mobility challenges and said the wheelchair would help her move around with ease.

“I never expected this kind assistance, so it is a huge shock to me. I therefore, thank PostBank from the bottom of my heart because from now on, it is going to be easier for me to be mobile,” Ms Mokhonofane.

For his part, chairperson of the Kanana community council, Zwane Takane, also thanked PostBank for the donations saying he was happy that the beneficiaries’ wait for assistance had finally ended.
