MASERU — About 40 clubs from the southern Africa region are expected to take part in the Lesotho Correctional Service (LCS) Metropolitan Netball inter-club tournament which gets underway in Maseru tomorrow.

The tournament runs until Sunday.

LCS is hosting the event in partnership with Metropolitan Lesotho.

The 40 competing clubs are drawn from South Africa, Botswana, and Lesotho.

LCS public relations officer, Bataung Morakabi, said Metropolitan has sponsored the tournament to the tune of M140 000.

“Metropolitan is sponsoring this tournament as their way of giving back to the community which has supported them over the years,” said Morakabi.

The competition is divided into four categories — senior (male and female), youths and veterans.

Prizes for the senior category are M3 000, M2 000 and M1 000 together with trophies and medals for first, second and third places respectively.

Winners in the youth category will get M2 000, M1 000 and M500 for first, second and third positions respectively.

Veterans will only receive trophies and medals.

Morakabi said Lesotho was ready for the tournament and clubs were already camping at the CTC.

“Our players are camping at CTC and we are looking forward to the challenge,” he said.

He said the teams would be playing day and night and LCS is preparing for the venue for the evening ties.

“We are already installing lights to make sure that everything runs smoothly.”

Clubs from South Africa and Botswana are expected to arrive in the country tomorrow morning.

Morakabi was hopeful that local clubs will play well and ensure that all trophies and medals stay here in Lesotho.

“LCS is strong and I am sure it will win all trophies and medals,” he said.
