Kingdom Classics to perform in third show

POP classic male quartet Kingdom Classics will once again serenade fans tomorrow at Maseru Sun Cabanas. The show starts at 7pm.

The annual affair, and in its fourth edition, is meant to dish out the best of pop classic Lesotho has to offer in commemoration of the Mountain Kingdom’s independence.

The group, formed in 2009, is comprised of Teboho Mothobi, Tuoe Hants’i, Mojai Madras and Motebang Koneshe.

Their musical output is certainly unique, and quite hard to cluster in any of the common music genres. They tap in the depths of classic western sounds from the 17th and 18th centuries and fusing them with contemporary rhythms.

“This being our fourth annual independence show, we will continue to serenade fans with our unique sound,” Hants’i told the Weekender this week.

“We have lined up motivational, healing, romantic and religious songs.”

The group normally has four shows every year, but due to unforeseen circumstances, they were unable to hold the Valentine’ Day show this year, which makes the upcoming show the second one before their last for the year; the Christmas show.

The group’s music seems to have found resonance with music lovers regardless of social class, age group or even race. Every time Kingdom Classics hosts a show or is billed to perform anywhere, the venue becomes filled to its capacity, sometimes beyond.

However, Kingdom Classics will this year add a twist to their repertoire. It will not be just music but comedy too at the event tomorrow.

“Kingdom Classics intends to form a mutual partnership will Lesotho’s very own comedy group, Lilaphalapha,” went on Hants’i.

“As much as we are able to touch people’s hearts and move their souls with the type of sound we provide, we found it fit to include comedy as laughter is the best medicine and Lilaphalapha is one of the most sought after comedy providers in the country.”
