MASERU — His
Majesty King Letsie III is expected to take part in the SOS Charity Golf Day at Maseru Gold grounds on January 21.

SOS Children’s Villages Lesotho national director, Robert Tšeuoa, told the Lesotho Times the purpose of the charity golf day is to raise funds to cater for the needs of children under their care.

Tšeuoa said SOS Children’s Villages Lesotho is looking forward to expanding its services to cater for 3 050 orphans in response to the growing numbers of orphaned and vulnerable children in the country by 2016.

“This is in line with the international strategy of SOS Children’s Villages International of reaching one million global children by 2016,” he said.

He added: “Our annual budget amounts to M16 million and the international  supporting organisations are only able to raise M11 million of this.

This means we have to source the outstanding M5 million locally through  fund-raising activities,” he said.

The golf tournament seeks to raise about M100 000.

Tšeuoa said Alliance Insurance has sponsored event to the tune of M50 000 and hoped this will help attract a good number of golfers.

His Majesty King Letsie III who is the patron of Children’s Villages Lesotho, members of the board, representatives of business companies, local and  international golfers, celebrities and staff of SOS Children’s Villages Lesotho are
expected to take part.

“The Charity Golf Day is a recreational activity to benefit both participants and SOS because there are prizes for winners on the day,” Tšeuoa said.

“Apart from support from independent companies, individual golfers will also take part.”

SOS Children’s Village Lesotho is  currently caring for 1 400 children under its family-based care and family-strengthening programme in Maseru and Quthing districts.
