LESOTHO Times senior reporter, ‘Marafaele Mohloboli’s husband, Eric, was last week seriously injured after unknown assailants attacked him at the couple’s Qoaling home, in Maseru.
Ms Mohloboli said the two masked robbers stormed into her bedroom through an unlocked kitchen door while she was working on her computer on Tuesday evening. Mr Mohloboli was lying in bed next to her.
While Ms Mohloboli was unharmed, her husband sustained deep cuts on his left leg and a broken arm.
She said the gun-wielding men demanded money but Mr Mohloboli told them that they did not have money in the house. His response led to a vicious attack by the robbers who struck him several times with a machete and a fighting stick.
“The two masked men stormed into my bedroom around 20:40pm armed with guns a fighting stick and a machete,” Ms Mohloboli said.
“My husband was already in bed but I was sitting in the blankets while working on my laptop. They were wearing balaclavas and they immediately demanded money. We told them that we did not have any and they started assaulting Ntate Mohloboli.
“One of them struck him multiple times with a fighting stick on the head and hand while the other struck him several times on his left leg with a machete which was wrapped with a plastic. He then managed to escape and they chased after him.
“Ntate Mohloboli was calling for help while running. He then sought refuge in a neighbour’s house.”
In the meantime, Ms Mohloboli was sending messages on Facebook and WhatsApp and some soldiers and the police arrived shortly afterwards. Mr Mohloboli was immediately taken to Queen ‘Mamohato Memorial Hospital (QMMH) where he was treated for a broken arm. He also received 10 stiches on the left leg.
Deputy police spokesperson ‘Mareabetsoe Mofoka yesterday said she had spoken to Ms Mohloboli but was unsure if the case had been reported formally.
