MASERU — Qoaling Highlanders on Sunday momentarily put their disciplinary woes behind them to go two points clear at the top of the Vodacom A-Division Southern Stream. Highlanders’ 2-0 victory over floundering Arsenal was one of the ties marking the end of the last round of matches for the year. The Qoaling side has been rocked by penalties imposed on them by the A-Division after they were found guilty of assaulting match officials. But having to play all their matches away from home will no doubt have given hope to Highlanders’ rivals. One of those is Rovers. However, the Roma side were held to a goalless draw by Swallows in Mazenod. Rovers have 18 points. Kick-4-Life beat bottom side Mabeoana 2-1.
They are third with 16 points. Mabeoana, meanwhile, are without a win all season and have just one point from their first nine games. In the northern stream, Mphatlalatsane thumped Roaring Lions 5-0 to move to the top of the table for the first time this season with 20 points. Linaleli were made to smile further when rivals Nyenye Rovers suffered their second defeat in a row when they were downed 3-1 by Sefothafotha. The result means Sefothafotha jump into second with 19 points while Nyenye Rovers drop down to third place, stuck on 18 points. Elsewhere, Qalo failed to keep pace with the leaders as they were beaten 2-1 at home by resurgent Lerotholi side. Sixth-placed Lithabaneng Golden ensured a log jam as they beat Butha-Buthe Roses 2-1 in Butha-Buthe. Qalo, Lerotholi and Golden are fourth, fifth and sixth with 16, 15 and 14 points respectively. The A-Division management committee will meet with clubs this Sunday where amongst other things the crucial second round of fixtures is set to be announced.
