Former US president George W Bush has joined the Ice Bucket Challenge to raise funds for ALS awareness. Bush goes on to challenge Bill Clinton to take the ice bucket challenge
“It’s my privilege to challenge my friend, Bill Clinton, to the ALS challenge,” said Bush. “Yesterday (19 August) was Bill’s birthday, so my gift to Bill is a bucket of cold water.”
Bush joins a long list of celebrities that have accepted the challenge, including Sir Richard Branson, Oprah, Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber. Meanwhile Gerard Pique and Shakira’s attempt at the ice bucket challenge ended in comical fashion after the pop star hit the Barcelona defender in the pot.
As of Wednesday, The ALS Association has received $31.5 million in donations compared to $1.9 million during the same time period last year (July 29 to August 20). These donations have come from existing donors and 637,527 new donors to The Association. The ALS Association’s mission includes providing care services to assist people with ALS and their families through a network of chapters working in communities across the nation and a global research program focused on the discovery of treatments and eventually a cure for the disease.
