EMBATTLED Commissioner of Police, Holomo Molibeli, is facing a fresh M500 000 lawsuit over his officers’ alleged torture of a Tšenola, Maseru, woman in February this year.

‘Makahlolo Mochobi approached the High Court a fortnight ago asking for the M500 000 to compensate her for the pain and suffering she endured during her “unlawful arrest” and detention in February 2023.

Ms Mochobi claims her unlawful arrest occurred when she pitched up at the police headquarters in Maseru to report a case in which a fake Facebook account had been opened in her name.

The fake Facebook account was then used to insult a local radio personality Mapaseka Sekantsi.

Ms Mochobi said she was advised to report the matter at the police’s cybercrime unit. Instead of being helped, she claims she was instead detained herself and brutally tortured by the police.

She claims she does not know why she was abused by the police for reporting the wrongdoing that was being perpetrated in her name.

She becomes the latest statistic in the long line of people who have sued Commissioner Molibeli for abusive behaviour by the men under his command

Barely a week goes by without the police being sued for wrongdoing. Several compensation judgments have since been issued against the police.
