NON-PROFIT organisation, Little Feet Foundation, is set to host a fun walk in Maseru next Sunday to raise funds for underprivileged children around the country.
The foundation was formed last November with the aim of providing psychological services to children residing in child care facilities and orphanages in Lesotho and South Africa. They use clinical psychologists, psychotherapists and psychiatrists as part of efforts to offer comprehensive psychological support to the children.
Participants in the fun walk, dubbed “Most Beautiful Costume”, will be required to wear “funky” costumes in the 11 kilometre event, while corporates will also be able to exhibit their products. Registration for individuals will be M50, while five company participants will pay M1 500. The registration process will run until the day of the event.
According to Little Feed Foundation Country Director Selloane Sethunya, the first 350 participants to cross the finishing line will receive a Little Feet Foundation medal. There will also be prizes for the best branded companies, groups and individuals.
The fun walk will start and end at Maseru Mall, with participants going into the city centre before returning to the shopping complex.
“Companies will be expected to use their company material to design their costumes with the winning participants awarded exclusive Little Feed Foundation medals and prizes at the end of the event,” Ms Sethunya said.
“The companies are expected to showcase their products and entertain guests to the best of their abilities.
“Our main objective in hosting the fun walk is simply to raise funds so we are able to provide for the needs of orphans and vulnerable children in our country.”
She said the proceeds of the fundraising campaign would be used to provide free counselling, therapy sessions and educational support for children in orphanages as well as the vulnerable ones in the communities.
The initiative, Ms Sethunya said, is meant to ensure the children are better equipped with the tools to confront the challenges of life.
She said most of underprivileged children did not know how they could access educational support.
“So that is where we step in and ask companies and other non-governmental organisations to assist,” said Ms Sethunya.
“Our vision is to be the most exciting, creative, self-funded children’s foundation that provides free psychological support services, educational and physical education (sports) to underprivileged children.”
