MASERU — The international football body Fifa’s regional development officer, Ashford Mamelodi, is expected in Lesotho tomorrow to evaluate the progress made in football development programmes.
Fifa every quarter gives the Lesotho Football Association (Lefa) US$250 000 for development projects, including women and youth football.
Mamelodi is scheduled to meet Lefa officials during his visit.
Lefa public relations officer Baba Malephane confirmed Mamelodi’s visit.
“It is true Mamelodi is coming to Lesotho to evaluate development programmes in Lesotho,” he said.
Malephane said Mamelodi wanted to see if programmes supported by funds from Fifa were progressing.
“We received money in relation to these programmes that Mamelodi is going to evaluate to see if they are being run smoothly,” he said.
Besides women and youth football, Fifa also supports refereeing courses and sports medicine in member countries.
