MASERU — Premier league chairman, Lebohang Thotanyana, is challenging Lesotho Football Association (Lefa) president, Salemane Phafane, for the association’s top job and the duo will go head-to-head this Saturday during a Congress set for Bambatha Tšita Sports Arena.
Lesotho Times reporter Moorosi Tsiane took to the streets and interviewed the football supporters about who should be the man to lead the football governing body for the next four years.
Thapelo Monne
I go with Thotanyana. He has improved Lioli since he joined them as part of management.
He has served different football committees and I think he has the experience to take our football to another level and his work since he became Lioli president speaks volumes.
Thebe Mohatle
Phafane is still the best candidate for me, he knows a lot about local football because he has been running it for a long period.
I think his knowledge in law can be an added advantage to our football. He should be given another chance to try and save our football.
Bataung Sereba
Phafane is the right man for the position. He has been doing a great job for the association and now Likuena is performing and maybe he is prepared to learn from his past mistakes to improve the association.
Mokoatsi Ramokoatsi
I still feel that Phafane is still the right man to be the president of Lefa.
He has done a lot for Lesotho football and still commands respect within the football community.
Yes, Likuena might not have been producing results for some time but the problem could be with the whole of Lefa management and not necessarily Phafane.
Moloi Tšele
I see Thotanyana as man who will take our football to greater heights.
Phafane has been occupying that sit with no tangible results to show for it except that he continues to destroy our football.
The standards of football have dropped and lack of sponsors and allegations of corruption are also playing a part in killing the sport.
Thotanyana has done wonders for Lioli. There is much success for his team both on and off the field and he deserves to be given a chance to lead a big association like Lefa.
Thabo Lesoetsa
I think Thotanyana is the best candidate. I have seen a lot of progress at Lioli since he took over as president of the club. Unlike Phafane, he has the best interests’ of football at heart.
He has also been sourcing sponsors for some smaller teams in the league in his capacity as chairman of the premier league and the competition in the league has improved a lot under his leadership.
Phafane has done nothing to improve football. He has been too comfortable and it’s time for him to go.
Bofihla Sekaleli
Thotanyana deserves a chance. The results are there for everyone to see. Look at the success Lioli is enjoying. The team looks very healthy under his leadership. He has put a lot of effort to turn the club into a semi-professional team and he can surely mirror that success with Lefa and football in Lesotho as a whole.
Phafane on the other hand has been the total opposite of what we need in a football administrator.
He knows nothing about the beautiful game and has been way too comfortable without delivering as Lefa president.
Remaketse Mochochoko
Without any doubt, Thotanyana deserves a chance to be the president of the association. He has proved at Lioli that he has the qualities to rescue a sinking ship.
He is definitely the man to take us to the dreamland as far as football is concerned.
Phafane has been there for too long and doing nothing to improve football. It’s time for change.
