ECONO Foods, the distributors of chilled, frozen and grocery foods is staging a three-day celebration as part of His Majesty King Letsie’s 56th birthday commemoration, which has been combined with the first anniversary celebrations of the business’ Maseru store.
His Majesty King Letsie III turned 56 yesterday. The national celebrations were held Upper Moyeni, Quthing district yesterday.
The store’s celebrations, which start today and run through to Saturday, will see customers walking away with prizes that include gift vouchers and hampers among others.
Founder and managing director of Econo Foods Lesotho, Kenny Soares, said the competition will see customers walking away with prizes collectively worth M20 000 and would be befitting for the two birthdays.
“We are going to run the celebrations over three days solely because we have three stores in Lesotho,” Mr Soares told Lesotho Times this week.
“At least 20 customers stand a chance of winning M300 vouchers for writing and sending winning goodwill messages through an SMS platform which will be revealed on Thursday (today).”
He said they are also running a special sale for some of their products running till the end of the month.
The draw for the winners will be done tomorrow at the Maseru shop although the celebrations will continue up to Saturday.
Mr Soares said other prizes to be won include hampers containing spices, food and cooking utensils among others.
“Strategically, our store’s birthday coincides with that of the King’s birthday and we intend to hold the celebrations annually henceforth.”
With 150 workers, Econo Foods started operating in Lesotho seven years ago bringing its products closer to its clientele who previously had to travel to South Africa.
Starting off as a spice dealer, operating under the name Spice World, the company soon added meat products to its profile to accompany the spices, and in the process rebranded to Econo Foods.
The company has since then seen remarkable growth becoming a leading brand moving from operating in a small space of 400 square metres to 2000 square meters.
The company has invested in a M21 million shopping centre, which opened last year. The complex houses the Econo store and various other businesses as tenants.
Econo Foods also has branches in Maputsoe and Mafeteng, while it uses a network of over 3000 distributors around the country.
