TELECOMMUNICATIONS giant, Econet, launched Caller Ring Back Tune (CRBT), a service that allows Econet customers the opportunity to choose melodies that play back to the caller while they wait for the response from the called party.
This was revealed by Econet’s Product Manager – VAS, Tlhaku Mokhethi at the launch that happened on Tuesday.
Mr Mokhethi said that instead of listening to the common ‘ring! ring!’ tune while waiting for the called party to answer the call, Econet customers can select their favorite songs from over 400 tunes that include songs from the local artists.
“Our customers can choose songs from four content categories which are gospel, new release, top local and world music,” said Mokhethi
He said that the new release category includes both local and international songs while top local includes over 200 tunes from both Lesotho and the Republic of South Africa’s musicians.
Mr Mokhethi further said that if the caller likes the tune that is playing on the called party’s cellphone, they are allowed to copy the same tune at the same price that the other caller paid.
He further explained that each subscriber can set a total of four ring back tunes which will comprise of one general tune for all incoming calls and three for specially selected numbers.
“For instance, a special tone such as a “Happy Birthday song” can be set so that the caller hears it when it is their birthday,” said Mr Mokhethi
Each caller ring back tunes costs between M0.50 and M1.30 for a song that expires between seven days and thirty days respectively. Each selected tone is charged independently depending on the selected validity period.
To subscribe for CRBT, Econet customers can dial 148 and follow voice prompts or dial *148# to choose from the menu or send the word “ACT” to 65148.
