THIRTY-five winners each walked away with big prizes on Saturday as Econet Telecom Lesotho (ETL) wrapped up its summer competition.

The three-months campaign, which was named Econet Gives You More running from November 2018 to January this year, saw many subscribers winning different prizes such as M10 000 cash prizes, M5 000 school fees, laptops, smartphones, airtime, data, smart TVs, trolley dashes daily, weekly and monthly.

These prizes were M10 000 cash (won by 20 people), M5 000 (won by 10 people), two smartphones, two laptops and a plasma television set.

ETL public relations officer Puleng Litabe said the company is happy to change the lives of its subscribers through the completion.

She added that the prizes of the competition were inspired by challenges faced by vulnerable children, who fail to go to school due to lack of resources.

“We are therefore happy to be meeting vulnerable school children half way in terms of contributing to their school fees. We hope this initiative will go a long way towards their education,” Ms Litaba said.

She added that while the competition was scheduled to give away prizes totaling M500 000, that figure had been surpassed.

“Today during the final draw, we were supposed to give away prizes worth M250 000 but we have actually given away M283 000.”

She said even the weekly and monthly prizes exceeded their initial limit as the company wanted to maximise its impact on education.

Ms Litaba urged their clients keep supporting Econet and its initiatives as it is through these initiatives that the company can also help them back.

Senate Masupha, who was among the winners on Saturday, could not hide her excitement when she drew out a M10 000 cash prize. The visibly ecstatic Masupha ran, kneeled and bowed in joy.

She told the Sunday Express she did not expect to win and said the money came at an opportune time when she needs resources for her business.

“I am just over the moon and I do not have words to express my gratitude to Econet,” Ms Masupha said adding: “I am so happy that I do not know what to do”.

Another M10, 000 winner, Qetelo Moleko from Mokhotlong said the money would be useful in paying school for his two children as he is unemployed.

“I am very thankful to Econet for this money, which is going to contribute a lot towards my children’s school fees,” Mr Moleko said.

Customers needed to send the word ‘WIN’ or ‘ECOCASH’ to 65100 via SMS at no charge. They then accumulated points each time they bought data or transacted on their mobile money platform, Ecocash.

New subscribers needed to buy and recharge with Sk’haftin vouchers for the first time and get five points to automatically enter the draw.
