SOUTH Africa’s Premium Comedy troupe drew howls of laughter from the audience during their show in Lesotho held at Victory Centre in Moshoeshoe II last Friday.
The show was part of the troupe’s Soweto Comedy Festival Southern African Tour, which was organised by Premium Comedy founder and stand-up comedian Kedibone Mulaudzi. The tour was launched in March this year, and Lesotho is the second country the troupe performed in after Botswana.
The comics who cracked revelers’ ribs were Mulaudzi, Chris Mapane, Thenyiwe Moseley, Tumi and Botswana’s Bambino while Lesotho was ably represented by Bofihla “Lilaphalapha” Neko. The comedy revolved around everyday life experiences such as politics, the economy, growing up and relationships among themes.
Mulaudzi told Xpress People on the sidelines of the event they were very pleased with the audience’s reception during Premium Comedy’s first show in Lesotho.
“It was cold today, but the energy from the crowd was electric. Even though this was our first show, we almost filled the hall to its capacity. We intend to come to Lesotho as often as we can,” he said.
“We see Africa as a continent without borders, hence we brought along Bambino from Botswana so that we could have a team of African comedians. We will be featuring Lilaphalapha in our upcoming shows starting with the Soweto Comedy Show penciled for 7 to 8 July.”
Bambino said the Soweto Comedy Festival Southern African Tour was his long sought opportunity to perform outside his home country.
“I have always dreamt of performing outside Botswana and coming to Lesotho is a great honour since we speak the same language and our cultures are more or less the same. I have made it my mission to come back here,” he said.
