SOUTH African clap n’ tap pioneers, Barorise Ba Morena, are set to perform in Lesotho on 1 November 2015.

Formed in 1965 in the sprawling township of Soweto, Barorise Ba Morena has 26 albums under its belt. Its membership exclusively consists of members of the St Jacobs Saviours Church.

The renowned group will perform alongside local choirs Bakhethiloeng Ke Morena and Lerato La Bolumeli at Lesotho Wool and Mohair Hall in Moshoeshoe II.

The show has been organised by Taelo Pali of entertainment outfit Made2Rok Events Management.

Pali told the Weekender this week that the concert was meant to uplift clap n’ tap gospel music in the country.

“The popularity of clap n’ tap music has declined in Lesotho compared to its former glory in the 1990s. Barorisi Ba Morena is among the greatest groups of this genre and the first ever to record clap n’ tap music. So, I believe it will help revive clap n’ tap music in the Mountain Kingdom,” he said.

“As a member of St Jacobs Saviours Church myself, I have been a great follower of the legendary group. It was, therefore, only befitting for me to invite them to Lesotho as they are also celebrating their Golden Jubilee after 50 years in ministry.

“It is one of a few groups whose music comforts my soul, revives my spirit and draws me closer to God. Hopefully, they will do the same with the audience in Lsotho.”

Pali said plans were afoot to make the event a regular feature on the entertainment scene, which would feature various clap n’ tap groups from Lesotho and South Africa. During the shows, he said, clap n’ tap groups would compete in different categories.

“I, together with the team I am working with, am envisioning a clap n’ tap competition which would be held on an annual basis to promote the genre in the country,” said Pali.
