MASERU — For Nthati Makhaba, 30, her drinking jaunts have finally paid off.
Makhaba won two tickets to spend a weekend in Cape Town, South Africa, in the annual Redds fun-walk promotion on Sunday.
She walked away with her prize at the Redds Fusion Fun Walk at Lake Side Hotel in Maseru.
“I guess drinking sometimes pays off,” an excited Makhaba told the Weekender after she was announced the winner.
“I entered the competition last month and put in a total of 10 entries and now I get to fly Cape Town,” she said.
Makhaba said she was taking along her 24-year-old friend, Mamosiane Tsoeunyane, on the trip. The two were set to leave Maseru for the Mother City tomorrow and come back home on Monday.
The trip comes courtesy of the sponsors, Maluti Mountain Brewery (MMB).
Mampine Sekote from MMB said the total cost of the trip was pegged at over M80 000.
She said trip will include three days of fun with a shopping spree, a make-over comprising manicure and pedicure as well as cookery classes.
Makhaba said she will take along her ‘drinking buddy’ Tsoeunyane because they always share the good times together.
“Because I was never alone on my drinking sprees, I am taking my drinking buddy and best friend. She may not have won but I believe we both deserve to explore the world,” Makhaba said.
She said the trip was a ‘dream-come-true’ for her as she never imagined that she would one day venture beyond Lesotho’s borders.
“This is like a dream come true. I never thought of travelling anywhere beyond Lesotho and I am very happy that this opportunity has come my way,” Makhaba said.
Tsoeunyane could hardly believe her luck. She just shook her head in disbelief.
“This is how true friendship should be. I didn’t see this coming and I am very grateful to have a friend who is not an opportunist but shares the happy moments too,” Tsoeunyane said.
