In our issue published on December 29, 2011, we carried a story headlined: PS says Cabinet gave nod to diplomat’s appointment.
We reported that Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Tebello Metsing said the Cabinet had recommended Makhabane Leluma for a diplomatic posting despite the fact he had a criminal case pending against him in court.
The statement gave the impression that at the time of appointment Cabinet was aware that Leluma was facing a criminal charge but still went ahead with the appointment.
It has since been brought to our attention that this was not the case. Cabinet was not aware of any pending criminal case against Leluma.
We therefore wish to apologise for any insinuation to the contrary. We also want to apologise to Mr Metsing for the inconvenience and embarrassment the story might have caused.
