MASERU — The Maluti Mountain Brewery (MMB) beer sales department last Tuesday walked away with the managing director’s award for the best sales team in Africa.
At least seven countries participated at the SABMiller (Africa) marketing, sales and distribution conference held in Sandton, South Africa.
Speaking at the awards ceremony, the national sales manager for beer at MMB, Lechesa Tikiso, said the award was due to the support the team had received from all key players at the brewery.
“We would have not won this award if it was not for the support of all stakeholders involved, the Lesotho Brewing Company sales team and the support departments across the value chain, the managing director of SABMiller Africa, the country directors, the divisional directors, the hub and our valued customers and consumers,” Tikiso said.
MMB managing director, Anthony Grendon, congratulated the sales team and all the supporting departments.
The countries that participated in the competition were Ethiopia, Malawi, Nigeria, Southern Sudan, Swaziland, Zimbabwe and Lesotho.
The countries were judged on the basis of their sales volume performance, trade execution standards, price compliance and customer service scores.
The MMB sales team was awarded tickets to attend the opening World Cup match between South Africa and Mexico at Soccer City Stadium in Johannesburg.
They were also given vouchers to secure luxury accommodation and R2 000 cash to spend during the match.
MMB is an affiliate of SABMiller which is the second biggest beer company in the world.
MMB produces premium brands such as Peroni, Miller Genuine Draft, Maluti Premium Lager, Redds and the popular lager brands Castle Lager, Hansa Pilsener, Carling Black Label and Maluti Premium Lager.
The brewing company was formed in 1980 with the majority shareholder being the Lesotho National Development Corporation on behalf of the government of Lesotho.
The company has a staff complement of about 300 people and operates six depots throughout the country.
