Moorosi Tsiane

THE Lesotho Volleyball Association (LVA) held its executive committee elections on Sunday and elected Lehlohonolo Ncheke its new president.

For the first time, Lesotho witnessed sports federation elections free of fights.

Ncheke is taking over from Hlapane Tsehlo.

Masoli Khoanyane was voted the vice president administration while the new vice president finance is ‘Mathato Machela.

Tanki Nkaki was elected vice president technical while Sebolelo Ntlhokoe retained her position as the association’s secretary general.

Mooka Tsoeu will be representing the athletes with Kananelo Hanyane being elected special volleyball representative.

Only Machela and Nkaki are to the committee as the rest were part of the outgoing committee.

Ncheke served at the vice president administration two terms ago but resigned midway to focus on personal commitments.

It is my hope, and most likely that of other stakeholders, that the new committee will be committed to developing the sport. The committee has a massive task of reviving the sport, which, like many others, has suffered immensely from the Covid-19 inflicted lockdowns and restrictions.

I also want congratulate the LVA for holding conflict-free elections in this time when fights have been the “in-thing” for local sports lately as evidence by the Lesotho Taekwondo Association (LTA) which has been fighting about its elections since last year.

The LTA’s elections were called off at the eleventh-hour last weekend by the Lesotho National Olympics Committee (LNOC) following some concerns raised by other members in the build up to the annual general meeting which was supposed to be last Saturday.

There have also been unending fights in the Federation of Athletics of Lesotho (AFL) which is heading to its elections at the end of the month.

I just wish both the LTA and AFL could take a leaf from the LVA and host incident free elections.

Bravo to the LVA and congratulations to Ncheke and company.
