A 27-year-old security guard is in police custody after allegedly fatally shooting his wife on Christmas day.

According to Police Spokesperson Lebona Mohloboli, the guard allegedly gunned down his 25-year-old spouse following an argument in Nyokosoba in Roma. The man is said to have suspected his wife of infidelity, which led to the argument, according to Senior Inspector Mohloboli.

“The 27-year-old suspect was on duty at a local supermarket where he works as a security guard,” Senior Inspector Mohloboli said.

“It is alleged that the now-deceased and the suspect had a fierce argument, which  led to the shooting of the woman. The woman died on the spot and the suspect was arrested at the scene of crime.

“The woman’s body was taken to the mortuary, while the suspect is still in custody as police investigations continue.”

Meanwhile, in another fatal domestic dispute, a 26-year-old woman was allegedly beaten to death by her 36-year-old husband following a heated argument at a public bar in Lithabaneng, also on Christmas day.

According to Senior Inspector Mohloboli, the couple left the bar soon after the dispute but the argument erupted once more on their way home.

“Police investigations have revealed that the couple had a heated argument while drinking at a local bar in Lithabaneng.

“The two then left the pub but on their way home, argued again and the man is said to have hit the woman with an iron-rod until she died. It is believed both were drunk during the incident.

“The suspect handed himself to Thamae Police Station soon after the murder, while the victim’s body was taken to the mortuary. The suspect is still in police custody and investigations into the case continue. The suspect will appear in court once investigations are through,” Senior Inspector Mohloboli said.
