MASERU — It wasn’t a glamorous haute couture event with fancy designer clothes but the Birds of Paradise Fashion Show at Pioneer Shopping Centre last Saturday attracted a large number of onlookers.

The event was initiated by five fashion boutiques operating at the mall.

According to Tracy-lee Faria of Authority it was meant to boost business for the clothing retailers at the mall.

“There is no life on the fashion wing of the mall,” she told the Weekender.

“It seems we are not doing much to make customers aware of our existence so the fashion show serves to breathe life to the fashion wing.”

Spring and summer collections were exhibited during the fashion show.

“The fashion show saw two sessions — morning and afternoon sessions — so as to attract both morning and afternoon shoppers,” Faria said.

“We had 26 aspiring models recruited from the streets parading clothing from Authority, Secity, KBs, Naz, Kristene’s and Wedding World which will open in November.”

She said the fashion show was one of the many promotional events lined up at the mall.

“Next month Pioneer is going to be a year old and we have planned a pavement sale where every day there will be a table of merchandise on sale to celebrate the first anniversary,” she said.
