BIKER’S association, Kingdom Riders, in partnership with some local artistes will on Saturday host a gig to raise funds for two Khubetsoana orphanages.
The fiesta will be held at DeeTee’s Lounge in Khubetsoana where artistes such as Stlofa, Gudoza, Sipho & Friends are scheduled to perform. DJs Boots, Counter Force, Thizozo, Da Starr and Mosh will also perform at the event while comedian Lilaphalapha will be the master of ceremonies.
Other activities have been lined up for the day include bike stunts, mass rides, darts, bag race, throw a ball and singing contests.
Speaking with Xpress People recently on behalf of the organisers, Connie Sejanamane of Kingdom Riders said winter was a time when the vulnerable are often destitute.
“Kingdom Riders has been engaged in various forms of charitable activities for orphanages and street kids and we collaborated with DeeTee’s Lounge after realising that they also had a similar plan,” Sejanamane said.
“In winter the less fortunate have a greater need for warm clothes and shoes so we have collected these from well-wishers which we will donate to Light of the World Foundation and … orphanages. We have also asked people to bring more to the event.
“Artistes also fell in love with the idea of helping the needy so they also offered to perform to raise funds by charging an entrance fee. We will also have games for which participants will pay a small fee to raise more funds. All the money collected on the day will be used to buy groceries for the two homes.”
Sejanamane said they also to make another donation at another orphanage in Sehlabeng on 14 July this year.
DJ Da Starr said: “Honestly speaking, it is tough for local acts to make ends meet due to no or low income”.
“We even struggle to even get transport to and from events as most will be giving us a platform. But then, I feel extremely happy to put a smile on somebody’s face by sacrificing for those few hours.
“There is nothing painful than seeing someone shivering in the cold because he or she cannot afford to get warm clothes,” DJ Da Starr said.
