MASERU — Respected South African musician Sipho “Hotstix” Mabuse will be a guest performer when local Afro-jazz star Bhudaza Mapefane launches his award-winning album at Maseru Sun on Saturday.

Bhudaza will be officially unveiling his third release, Likhomo, which won the best adult contemporary album (African) gong at the South African Music Awards (Sama) in April.

The saxophonist had planned to bring in a couple of renowned artists for Saturday’s concert, but yesterday he told the Weekender only Hotstix would make it.

“I would have loved to bring the likes of Selaelo Selota and Matshediso Mholo of Malaika but I couldn’t get hold of them,” Bhudaza said.

“The Village Pope won’t be coming as he has a show lined up in Zimbabwe the same night.”

Bhudaza said he had also slotted in a host of upcoming local artists to showcase their talent at the concert.

“The event is going to feature the likes of Stlofa and The Disciples who would be promoting their music as well as a poetry session where Mantilatilane poets would add a unique aspect of local talent,” he said.

Bhudaza said the concert was also meant to celebrate his Sama success.

“The show is also set to celebrate my success of winning a Sama award in April,” he said.

He said ticket sales for the show were “looking very positive”.

“The tickets are sold in bulk for companies and singles for individuals and I must say, it is looking brighter than the last time I organised an event,” Bhudaza said.

He was confident of putting up a splendid show featuring songs from all of his three albums, including Bo-Mapefane and Mohokare.

“We have organised a collaboration with Hotstix to add a spark to the show and it’s a not-to-miss moment as we fuse two jazz spirits,” he added.
